In this tutorial we show how to create pyrotechnic shrubs - that is to say, shrubs that contain targetable pitch ditches. This simple technique can be used to catch out unsuspecting players and can also be used to give players "hidden pitch" that they will only see if they look carefully...

Although not perfect, we can make a rough visual approximation of stone machicolations on diagonal castle walls. These structures were used to drop stones, burning oil and other nasty stuff on the enemy at the base of the wall...

In our article on "digging for oil" we showed how moat could be used to lower oil and at the same time give it the same properties of moat allowing it to be "dug up" by spearmen, etc. Read on to find out how cool the same effect is when applied to marshland to create partially fillable moats.

Note that this can only be edited in the version 1.1 map editor of the orignal Stronghold, but maps using it can be played in any version of the original Stronghold.

Desert warfare is difficult at the best of times. You've got to make sure your troops don't get sun stroke, protect them from the enemy and provide a place for them to eat, drink and sleep. Luckily, there's a simple way to deal with all these issues in the form of a desert outpost...
