One of the most useful wall tricks to master is the ability to lower walls to any height desired.  This will allow you to create all kinds of new designs from cow farms to paved roads...

Submitted by Lord Kyle, Aubergine, Lord Yoshi and Earl Listibald

Lowered walls have literally hundreds of uses - from fountins to town plaza's and beyond.  Once you master this technique, you will be able to create far more innovative maps.  They have proved so useful that in Stronghold Crusader there is even a special "low wall" tool in the castle building palette.
  • Place some walls (stone or wooden) or steps
  • Place a large boulder on the walls
  • Erase the boulder
  • Lower the terrain that was raised when the boulder was placed
  • Repeat the process above as necessary to reduce the height of the walls to the desired level

The picture below illustrates this process:

Each time you repeat the process, the height of the wall will be halved until it eventually becomes level with the ground.

Here we explain this whole process once more, this time with the help of some pictures from Earl Listibald:

We want to build a street in front of these shops!

We add a wall right in front of the shops (note the fact that in Crusader we already have smaller walls at our disposal):

Now we go to the landscaping tools and chose a rock that is at least one tile wider than the to-be-lowered-wall (in this example we use the largest rock which is two tiles wider). By pressing the space bar to reduce the height of all buildings and terrain, you can see where our rocks have been placed more easily (highlighted with a red square to show where the first rock was placed):

Using the eraser tool (circled in red in the picture above) the remaining part of the rock (as shown in the red square) needs to be deleted.  Be careful while doing this as the eraser tool will There will be some raised terrain where the rock has been erased - use the "lower terrain" tool to reset the terrain to ground level.

Repeat this entire process until the desired height is achieved (may take up to ten times)...

Our wall is now lowered, our new street is ready and the shops are running and everybody is happy about our great achievement:

Here are some examples of what can be done with this technique (and in most cases, a lot of patience!):

Little Harbour (Earl Listibald)

Streets City (Earl Listibald)

Wooden Stilts (Aubergine)

Monestary and Cow Farm (Aubergine)

This picture shows lowered wooden walls.  You can also use this effect on Palistone walls, stone walls with wooden spikes and so on.

River Crossing (Unknown Author)

Water Pump Station

This picture shows lowered Palistone walls.

Aquaduct Fountain (Yoshi)

Yoshi's Bridge

In this picture, Yoshi uses some lowered walls for the sides of the bridge but to save time he uses stockpile slabs for the main part of the bridge.

Town Plaza

In what is probably the most epic example of lowered walls ever produced, Yoshi does it again with this town plaza (Looks like Sevilla/Spain):

Note: EL informs us that wooden stilts can be made during the game - just use a tower instead of a large rock!
