Have you ever wanted to create something magical for your map ?... I'm not talking about a great looking castle or that bane of map designers... perfect balance! Nay, I'm talking about something truly magical... like a "wall of force" to stop the enemy dead in their tracks? Well if you want to add a touch of spice to your scenarios, here's a little something which can help you on your way...

The aforementioned "Force Walls" are one of the wierdest looking things you can have in your map.

To make them:

  • Select appropriate (smallest is best) brush size
  • Raise terrain to desired height (max-height used here)
  • Select 'Ford' from the water tools tab in the editor
  • Put ford on top of the raised terrain.

This gives a very wierd effect on the sides which make it look like a magic wall more than anything else.  You can use any height of the terrain to get this effect:

You can even use the "Himalaya" trick to get Trick Terrain Walls higher than max-height:

Following the same simple steps, you can make an imposing Dark Wall, all you need to do is replace the ford with rocks using the 'Rock' tool in the editor:

Or you can make (my favorite) Wall of Water...

Here add water on top of the raised terrain and then use the 'Foam' tool on top to create a steaming, frothing wall!

An example of how to implement a Terrain Trick wall into a scenario...

Your town is under attack by an overwhelming number of the enemy troops, the town's defenses are too weak to hold them until the King's men arrive from the capital in the heartlands to your village on the frontier. Your only chance is to divert the enemy from crossing the river at the fords in the West and force them to march to the eastern ford while passing through your ambush forces and hidden archers... So you gather your town's High Priests(monks) and ask them what they can do... The moment the enemy's army crests the nearby hills, the five of them march down to the Western fords and stand on the southern bank. Calling upon Arkhas, Elemental God of Water, feverishly they raise a gigantic wall of water in the path of the enemy, making the western fords impossible to cross... the great feat of magic makes the approaching army stop and take notice but they will not be hindered for long... already there scouts are moving towards the eastern ford... This is where you must make your stand.

Putting 5 monks (or any other unit for that matter) behind the Wall of Water, you can make it look like they have conjured the wall...

The potential applications of this in a scenario are only limited by your imagination. Have Fun !
