Firefly Studios: Stronghold Kingdoms Announced!

Firefly Studios has announced they have been working a new massively multiplayer onine game, Stronghold Kingdoms. Our quick scan of the press release gives the impression that Stronghold 1 style graphics have been married to a Stronghold 2 type economy system. Add in massive multiplayer elements for attacking, defending and raising through the ranks of a faction.
Early Highlights - Control one or more villages, and the building possibilities looks rather extensive.
- Fight across counties and the country.
- Build massive castles.
- Extensive technology trees.
- Manage your village and it may grow into a small realm
Rampant Speculation - From the press release, we see an archer, pikeman and swordsmen, so I bet we can safely assume they are included in the game and the tech tree and castle attack picture shows knights and catapults.
- Many new building will probably exist since a large technology tree seems to be in the works, allowing for long games.
- Factions are mentioned, so there seems to be some ways to team together with your friends and compatriots.
What we want to know (from initial reader reactions)- Will the battles tbe real-time and controllable, or will the MMO nature of the game prevent such interactive battles?
- Will there be smaller maps to allow for friends only gaming?
- Is that boat actually representative of something, or just a cool graphic?
- Lastly, when will it come online?
