Wooden stilts are extremely versatile when it comes to creating eye candy on your map. Not only to they look good and have lots of applications, they are also fully functional walkways for your units...

To create wooden stilts, use this process: - Place some wooden wall then place a wooden platform next to the wall
- Use "something heavy", such as a sizable boulder or better still a large stone tower, to squash the wooden steps into the ground and usually erradicate them.
- Remove the flattened wooden steps with the delete or eraser tool

That's it! Here's another image that shows what happens when you use stone towers to destroy the steps:
