In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create customised armouries with their own unique entrances and outer walls. With a bit of tweaking you can even create customised gatehouses with them...

Note: Although the pictures shown here are all from the original verison of the game, you can still use these tricks in Crusader...
First, place a tower on min height terrain then place some walls as shown below, making sure that one wall appears directly under a tower door and the others are placed at the far corners of the tower:

The wall placement is a bit easier to see when the map is flattened as shown below:

Next, raise all the surrounding land to mid plain then paint over the land with dirt terrain to remove any stones near to the tower and stairs:

Now it's time to place some armouries, leaving spaces between them, as shown below:

Because the armouries have to be placed together, we have to place some temporary armouries to bridge the gaps between the armouries next to the castle, it's easier to see when the map is flattened again:

We can only place 8 empty armouries in the map editor (as they are all empty at this stage) so in order to place our last armoury we have to delete all the temporary ones marked with a red cross above.
Next, place our last armoury then delete the final temporary armoury:

Now, we place several stairs where indicated in the picture below:

And finally we surround the whole thing in a wall type of our choice:

You can use other wall types as well of course. once in the game, your workers will take their goods to the tower in order to place it in the armoury:

Of course, you might consider using the terrain raise tool to level out the armouries and the walls. Afterall, it's abuot the looks, is it not?
Gatehouse Armouries By mixing armouries with drawbridges, walls and even small wooden gates, we can create unique gatehouses...

The example on the left isn't a functional gatehouse but does allow workers to access the armoury to deposit their weapons and shields.
The example on the right uses a small wooden gate to allow troops and workers access to the top of the walls (as you can see behind the armoury) and also allows workers to deposit their weapons and armour in the armoury! It works as long as there is one tile of normal wall attached to this gatehouse and some stairs behind and besides it works as an armoury as well...

Of course one can lower the attached wall to the point where no stairs are needed to make it functional. It will look even more like one true gatehouse!
Armouries in Buildings Another nice trick is to use a mixture of armouries and walls, etc., to create very customised buildings that workers will visit to deposit weapons and armour...

The picture above shows the armoury in Talos_911's Edoras map and here is another example for his forthcoming Minas Tirith map:

Another example by Merrill the Just shows how we can use an armoury as the roof to a custom tower or building:

Although the armoury in this last example is not accessible to workers, it's a great piece of eye candy for siege maps. To make the armoury level with the crenelated wall the land below it was raised before the armoury was placed.
Enjoy!
